Source: The Miami Republican, Paola, KS, 29 Dec 1922, page 1:

Outman - Mrs. R. L. Outman passed away on Thursday noon, Dec. 21, at St. Mary's hospital in Kansas City, Mo. As announced in last week's Republican Mrs. Outman was operated on for removal of a tumor on Saturday morning, Dec. 16. She came out splendidly and was gaining strength nicely until Wednesday night when the nurse began to notice a change. Early Thursday morning Mr. Outman, who was staying three doors away, was called and her condition seemed to be becoming serious. A specialist was called and on investigation he declared that there was a kink in the intestine. A hurried operation was performed to relieve this and Mrs. Outman rallied enough to recognize Mr. Outman but by the time her daughter Wilma came a little later was past consciousness and died in a short while. The body was brought to Paola and on Sunday afternoon funeral services were conducted at the home at 203 North Pearl Street by Rev. C. M. Williams. Burial was in the Paola cemetery. Mrs. Outman's maiden name was Pearl Sutton. She was born near Centerville in Anderson County in 1877 and was married March 27, 1898, to R. L. Outman. They continued to live at Centerville until seven years ago when with her husband and daughters she moved to Paola where they have since lived while Mr. Outman has conducted a cafe. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband and two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Vierth, wife of Chas. Vierth of Paola and Wilma at home, also her mother Mrs. Sutton, and sister, Mrs. G. E. Kline, both of Centerville, and one brother, C. O. Sutton of Paola. In Paola Mrs. Outman has been a true helpmate of her husband, both in the home and in the restaurant. She fought the plucky fight and few realized that hers was a life of physical suffering. The sincerest sympathy of the community went out to the husband, daughters and other relatives when word of the death came to Paola friends.
