1988 Outman Family Reunion |
THE FIFTH OUTMAN REUNION
The 5th Outman Reunion began gathering this afternoon at the YMCA Camp of the Rockies, in Estes Park, Colorado.
It was a beautiful day. After checking in at the Alpen Inn and getting room assignments, visiting and renewing
acquaintances was the order of the day. After a hay ride for the young set a delicious 6 PM dinner
was enjoyed. An informal evening was held at Ypsilon Lodge that evening. Genealogy books were reviewed,
enjoyed and purchased. Martha Lee Gruenewald had compiled each branch of the Outman family in a separate
book and will also combine them for one large record.
Sunday morning pictures were taken of the entire group and them a photo of the individual branches, Jacob,
John, and Jonah. Several members of the family enjoyed church services in the chapel. After a bountiful Sunday
dinner several folks went mountain hiking while others drove around sight-seeing and what beautiful sights
they were. A Bar-Be-Que picnic was enjoyed as our Sunday evening meal, and the "Western Night" was the entertainment.
Fred Butts, a friend of Marhta Lee's, from Denver, Colorado, called squares and mixer dances, and a great
time was had by all. On Monday morning several car loads embarked on a trip over Trail Ridge Road to Grand Lake. Others
spent time shopping and picnicing along the Big Thompson River Our farewell party on Monday night was held at Ypsilon Lodge. Martha Lee made several remarks and made suggestions for future
reunions. After much discussion a business meeting was called and officers for the next reunion
were elected. Those to serve are President - Dorothy Voss (Jonah-Michigan), Secretary Virgene Lockas (Jacob-Illinois),
and Treasurer Herman Gruenewald (John-Colorado). All were elected by acclamation. A $5.00 a year membership dues was assessed. Husband and wife are considered one membership. The next reunion will
be held in 2-3 years, probably in Michigan or Florida. Both to be at the discretion of the President. All members were asked to notify Martha Lee Gruenewald of births, deaths, etc. and she will keep records up to date. Evelyn Outman Perkins from Marseilles, Illinois, the only family member to attend all 5 reunions was called
on to make comments. She included the reading "Hugging". William Henry Outman of St. Augustine, Fla. wrote a poem and will send a copy to Secretary. A sing-a-long was
held and videos of the reunion were shown. Refreshments were served. After breakfast on Tuesday morning the family saying their good-byes and began departing by car and plane.
Each one present wants to thank Martha Lee and Herm for all the time and energy spent planning this
