Following is a transcription of the handwritten will of Jacob Outman:

State of Illinois
Washington County

   Be it known unto all to whom these presents shall
come that I the undersigned Jacob Outman now residing in
Nashville in said county, being of sound mind and memory
do hearby make declare and publish this my last will and
testament as follows:
First,
   After the payment of my funeral expenses and just debts
I give devise and bequeath all the proceeds of my estate
both real and personal as follows, one fifth to my son
Eli J. Outman, one fifth to my daughter Sarah E. Meyer,
one fifth to my daughter Betsey Tuthill, one fifth to my
daughter Rachel Purdy, and one fifth to my three
grandchildren Ella M. Outman, Mary B. Outman, and William
H. Outman equally divided among them;
Second,
   I hereby give devise and bequeath to my executors
hereinafter named or to either one of them in case the
other for any cause refuses to act, all my estate both
real and personal of every description and the right to
the immediate possession thereof after my death to be held
and used by them in trust for the following purposes,
        To pay my funeral expenses,
        To pay my debts if any,
        To pay the expenses incident to the settlement
            & distribution of my estate,
        And to pay the proceeds to my children and
            grandchildren as herein before provided;
Third,
   In the management of my estate it is my will that my
executors should keep the land rented as well as
practicable until it is sold, and pay the taxes from the
rents or from the personal property; I desire my executors
to sell all my real estate as early as convenient
including the Northeast quarter of Section 27 in Township
Seven South Range Two west in Jackson County Illinois;
and I hereby expressly authorize and empower my executors
to sell and convey any and all of my real estate at public
or private sale on such time and terms as they may deem
best and make & execute all necessary deeds for that
purpose, using due care that deferred payments of the
purchase money be well secured, and bearing interest;
Fourth,
   If part of my land should be sold before the balance
thereof, then I wish the executors to loan the money or
land arising from such sale to the best advantage they
can till the sale of the balance of the land;
Fifth,
   When all the land is sold then the executors shall
divide the proceeds of my estate in five equal shares
and distribute the same, four fifths to my four children
or their heirs, and the other fifth to my grandchildren
herein before named, provided that if the land should
all be sold before 1882 then the executors shall retain
the distributive shares of my two granddaughters Ella M.
Outman & Mary B. Outman and keep the same invested at
interest till that year (1882) when the amount shall be
paid over to them;
Sixth,
   I hereby constitute and appoint Dedrick R. Meyer and
Sarah E. Meyer of Nashville Ill. as executors of this my
last will and testament with full power and authority to
either one of them to execute the provisions of this will
and act in place of both of them, if either one fails to
act hereunder, hereby revoking all wills heretofore made
by me. In testimony whereof witness my hand and seal
hereunto affixed this 16th day of March A.D. 1877.
