Handwritten Will of Dedrick R. Meyer,
made on 24 November 1881 at Nashville,
Washington County, Illinois:
Last Will of D. R. Meyer
I, D. R. Meyer of Nashville, Washington County, Illinois,
being of sound mind and memory do make, declare and publish
this, as and for my last will and testament, hereby revoking
all former wills by me made.
First - I desire that all my just debts be paid, and that
a suitable monument be erected to my memory and that of my
wives deceased.
Second - I desire that my wife Sarah E. Meyer (if she
survive me) receive of my estate the amount provided by the
laws of Illinois.
Third - I order that my children, Dedrick J. Meyer and
Helen Meyer, receive from my estate (either real or personal,
this being a charge on both) the sum of $500 each, to be placed
in the hands of my executors, and to be expanded (if necessary)
for the education of my said children.
Fourth - All the balance of my estate both real and personal,
after the payment of the foregoing bequests I order to be equally
divided and distributed share and share alike between all my
children vis: Willie Meyer, Mary E. Sawyer, Francis J. Meyer,
Dedrick J. Meyer and Helen Meyer.
Fifth - I order that whatever amount of my estate that shall
be found to be due to Mary E. Sawyer by virtue of the fourth
section of this will, shall be held by my executors in trust for
her use, or in case of her death for the use of her children: my
executors to pay to the said Mary E. Sawyer or to her children
only the interest, rents or profits arising from her said portion
of my estate, unless it shall become absolutely necessary for her
or her childrens welfare, that they should receive more than the
rents, interest or profits and in such case I particularly order
that my executors use their best judgment for her interest and
only pay out or disburse the principal of her said portion of my
estate or they shall deem for her or her childrens best interest
and welfare, as it is my certain wish and request that the portion
of my estate found due Mary E. Sawyer, be used and expended for
the sole use and benefit of herself and her children.
I hereby appoint my son Willie Meyer and George W. Akins,
executors of this my last will, giving unto them full power to
lawfully carry out my wishes and requests herein contained and
also giving unto them full power and authority to sell either at
public or private sale such portions of my real estate and make
deeds thereto as they shall deem best for my estate, in case it
shall become necessary to sell real estate to pay my debts or
bequests herein.
In testimony of all which I hereunto affix my hand and seal
this November 24th A.D. 1881.

We hereby at the request of D. R. Meyer, in his presence,
and in the presence of each other, affix our names as witnesses
to the foregoing instrument and signature hereto, as and for the
last will of D. R. Meyer.
