A tribute to Stephen Samuel Outman, written by an old friend:

OLD FRIEND GONE

You have noted in the last Herald the death of Bro. S. S. Outman. We wish to give a more extended notice this week. He was an old time friend of the writer, we having met him nearly twenty-seven years ago. When he lived in Kansas we were often in his home when making rounds preaching the gospel of holiness. In his kind home and among his nice family we always found helpful and encouraging hospitality and were always glad when it fell our lot to be sheltered under his roof.

Bro. Outman was saved in the year 1882 and in the early days of holiness where Bro. J.F. Watkins was preaching in Kansas, he entered with his wife into the experience of holiness and bacame one of its staunch friends. Those who have been in close touch with him for the past number of years bear strong testimony to his faithfulness to the Lord. This must be a great comfort to all when we think of the fact that in an instant without the least particle of warning, as he was going to his work about 8 o'clock in the morning and in stepping from the street car to avoid a passing car, he stepped a little farther back and just as he did so, a gush of water struck him, knocking him across the street, his head striking the curbing, rendering him unconscious in which condition he remained until death a week later. Last words are much appreciated by loved ones and friends when they tell us of triumph in Jesus, but a good life is better than all else. Services were outlined in the first article.
