STROUPES CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING DAY

Mr. and Mrs. Amos C. Stroupe of De Soto observed the 50th anniversary of their marriage Sunday, November 19, with a family gathering and reception.

Twenty members of their immediate families were at the Stroupe home, 302 Fillmore for a buffet luncheon at noon.

During the afternoon from two to five o'clock, scores of other relatives and friends attended the reception at the Carmen's Hall, bringing many beautiful anniversary gifts and best wishes to the well-known and respected De Soto couple.

Ice cream and cake were served, with Duffner's providing these refreshments as has been their custom during this year, in observance of the De Soto Company's golden anniversary.

Anniversary cakes for the pleasant occasion were also brought by the following: Mrs. Jessie Danz and Mrs. Ella Hercher, sisters of Mr. Stroupe; Mrs. John Haggerty, niece of Mrs. Stroupe, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Stroupe, their son and daughter-in-law, and Mrs. Carroll Stroupe and Mrs. Robert Patterson.

Among the numerous messages of congratulation was a letter of congratulations from Congressman Richard H. Icoord: "You must have accumulated a store of treasured memories in the years you have spent together, and it is my sincere wish that you have abundant happiness and health in the future," wrote Mr. Ichord, who was joined by Mrs. Ichord in the expression of good wishes and kind regards.

The Stroupes were married November 15, 1911, in a ceremony performed by the late Rev. D.W. Crow, a Methodist minister at the home of Mrs. Carrie Rudd on North fourth Street here. A dinner followed with members of the immediate families attending, at the home of Mr. Stroupe's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stroupe also of Fourth Street.

Mrs. Stroupe is the former Miss Mabel Armstrong of Eureka, Kansas, who came to De Soto a few years before her marriage and made her home with her aunt. Mr. Stroupe was born in Festus, but has spent nearly all his life in De Soto.

They have one son, Woodrow. He and his wife have two children, Shirley and Robert. They also reside at 302 Fillmore.

As a young man Mr. Stroupe worked for the Iron Mountain and Missouri Pacific Railroad Companies as an oiler in the shops here. He closed long service in the machine shop of the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company at Crystal City last year, retiring July 30, 1960.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Stroupe are active and in good health. He is 69 and she is 68. They have made their home in De Soto continuously since their marriage, residing for many years on North Second Street and the past few years on Fillmore.

They are members of St. Andrew's Methodist Church. Mr. Stroupe is a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge at De Soto and Mrs. Stroupe is a social member of the Royal Neighbors.

Mrs. Stroupe's principal interest has always been in her home and family. She enjoys having time for visiting with friends and watching favorite television programs. Mr. Stroupe who has always had a strong concern in union and political affairs, also maintains his interest in community matters and in sports and horse shows.

The Press and The Republic of which they have been long-time readers, join their many friends in wishing the Stroupes many more happy years in the community where they have made their home.
