The following article appeared in the July 26, 1922 edition of the The Agitator newspaper, Wellsboro, PA:

Bethel Orphanage Notes.

Callers at the Orphanage during the the past two weeks were: Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Crandall, Mrs. F. Tubbs, Miss Phoebe Smith, of Osceola; Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Stone, of Harrison Valley; Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Judd, of Elkland; Mrs. Harry Cook, of Cowanesque; Miss Hannah Middleton, of Knoxville; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Vosburg, of Mansfield; Mr. and Mrs. John Hazleton, Leo C. Rice, of Wellsboro; Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Wood, Mr. and Mrs. V. B. Nobles, of Westfield; Mrs. D. O. Smith, Miss Agnes Stratton, Mrs. Foster Nickerson, of Blossburg, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Risler and Mrs. Frank Risler of Elmira.

Miss Maude Appleby, one of the Orphange children, spent a few days recently with Mrs. Harry Cook, of Cowanseque; Miss Edith Buck, Miss Nellie Scudder, Miss Rosalee Beckman, Mr. Maynard Beckman, Mr. Paul McLain, from the Orphanage, are spending their summer vacation with friends.

The children enjoyed two watermelons which had been sent by L. Sheen, of Elkland.

A ladies' Sunday School class in Wellsboro are filling some fruit cans for the Orphanage, which is very much appreciated by us.

Mr. and Mrs. Outman and Miss Grace Risler, from Bethel Orphanage, took a trip in the Orphanage car to Barnes, N. Y., after cherries. They took along a camping outfit and camped for a few days just below a large cherry orchard. The cherries were large and very nice, and while there they picked, pitted and canned many cherries, which the children will enjoy this winter. The orchard was situated on a side hill, overlooking Seneca Lake. They returned with a large box of cherries for the children. This proved not only a useful but also a very pleasant outing.

On July 22, the Orphanage children, in three large cars, were taken to Wellsboro, where they recited a little program. They repeated verses from the bible, also sang songs. District Attorney Elliott made a plea for the work, stating that home missionary work is of great importance, and that here is a chance to help. He spoke of the importance of right training for children. We were grateful for the offering received. The children were all treated to ice cream.

While the boys have been faithfully helping Daddy Outman in our large vegetable garden, the girls have taken much pains and pride in their flower garden. We have some beautiful flowers. We intend next year to have a larger flower garden, and we wish that all the children that would like to help in beautifying this garden would save different kinds of seeds, wrap them in separate packages, with the name of each kind on the outside of the package, and send them to Bethel Orphanage. We would appreciate annuals such as balsams, marigolds, pansies, phlox.
